I think disconnecting the vacuum advance on the carbs helped with the cold starting. It hesitated about half as much as it usually does when I tried it this afternoon. The main problem I want to address before I do any fiddling with the carbs (which shouldn't really be necessary if my plugs are tannish-grey in colour right?) is getting the engine to run cooler!! Having the needle sitting right on the "T" in TEMP is perfect but it tends to run closer to the M or P after awhile and trying to tune the carbs becomes pretty much pointless. It's not even hot here right now and the carbs were burning my fingers hot - probably almost boiling the gas hot. I've seen something I believe are called "phenolic spacers" used in between the intake manifold and SU's before. Is this just to keep them further from the exhaust? I'll be taking the car to get an oil change soon (don't have a garage to do this myself) and I was thinking of getting a rad flush at the same time (I think it's probably needed
