hard to start when engine is cold 140-160 1968

This is good advice. I'm just about to go over the valves again, because when I tried adjusting them last night I ended up backing a few of them off and now it sounds a bit like a tractor (and seemed to accelerate a bit worse as well). I'm going to use the info I found on VClassics on properly adjusting valves. What is the safest way to check the proper functioning of the coil? I'll have a look under the dist. cap as well. I'm thinking the rad may finally need to be replaced and I may shop around for a reconditioned one if the problem persists.
The carbs have been known to give me vapor lock, but after disconnecting the vacuum advance it seems to be fine.

Thanks for the great advice
