I am trying to educate myself adequately to attempt an air bag removal from a "parts" car I've located, so that I can replace those which deployed in the 940 I am attempting to rebuild.
For anyone like me in Massachusetts, I'm wondering whether I have to have the air bags operational to get an inspection sticker. I assume I have to have the seat belts working because Mass. imposes a fine for non-use of seat belts. So my immediate question is, can I effectuate a release of the seat belts to make them functional before I go through the entire re-installation of the air bags.
I have already had feed back from Spook and others, which describes the air bag removal and installation as a challenge. But, I have not choice, unless the car can pass inspection with the seat belts, alone. Regardless, I have a 940 available to me for free and the air bags are intact.
Also, from what I can see, my dashboard was not destroyed by the passenger bag, although the cover of the bag was. I assume that cover comes with the bag from the donor car.
Its seems a real shame that the air bag deployment, while good for saving injury, has to be so devastating to the car, itself.
