M46 Overdrive solenoid click 200 1984

So, friend with a '84 244, overdrive is not working.

I can hear and feel the solenoid click, so I know all the electronics are in order. But I don't know how noticable that click should be. Sort of feels like it might be stuck or something. Yea, click, but does not feel like it engages anything mechanically.

Took for a test drive up to ~55mph, overdrive light on, got back for the looksee. When feeling for the click, I noticed the solenoid was almost too hot to touch, but the overdrive unit itself was not as hot..

Does sticky solenoid sound like a possibility to you experts?
