Its may be a strange subject for the 940 forum, but I am being muscled into buying a replacement for the beautiful 940 (130K)my teenage daughter crashed a couple weeks ago. I am in the process of a rebuild, but its future is not certain and meanwhile I'm being pressured into the 21st century.
I've been looking a Volvo replacements. My daughter prefers the XC 90 series, which offends my ecological inclinations, as a gas guzzler and at least perpetuating bad American habits of excess.
I would choose the V70 series as the closest of the newer Volvos in body shape to the '40 series.
Lately as a compromise, I've been pushed toward the V70 XC, which I liken to a V70 on steriods; at least as to its outward appearance.
Since most of us 940 lovers are going to have to confront sooner or later the choice of moving away from our cars, and many probably have, already, I'd like to get some opinions of which way to go.
The sales rep I have been speaking with is very enthusiastic for the 5 cylinder engine and describes it as a reliable workhorse along the lines of the B230F. Yesterday, he pointed toward a 2007 V70 XC with 60 thousand miles. Color Blue with a light interior (my daughter favors the light interior). The price is a little more than I want to spend @ $20,900. Of course that is a high end dealer's price and I could probably do better shopping through Craig's list, but I'm kinda tired and worn out from all the auto related problems I've been dealing with and the crash was the "straw".
There is alsoa 2006 V70 on the lot for $6,000 less! But, it has 95,000 miles. If the car is going to be kept for, say 10 years, the extra $6,000 amounts to $600 per year, which might make a car with much less mileage worth the extra money.
Opinions on the newer Volvo's are requested, please?
