Fuel pump woes 200 1987

My fuel pump when out after a long and painful death of whirring which was audible from the cabin of the car, so this would most likely be fuel pump on the exterior of the tank? And right before it finally died, my car would surge and slow as the fuel pump cut out, and the car backfired and exploded my muffler, this is most certainly because of the fuel pump, right? The car also has an intermittent no-start policy where it wont even turn over, I think its the starter solenoid unless there is a more likely culprit?

Just trying to figure what parts I need...

Thanks much!
Paul
