Car died 700

This afternoon crossing the GW Bridge into heavy traffic car died. First the radio and then the engine. Tried to restart it and didnt work . Second try some 2 min later and the car started with difficulty. I was able to drive home (about ten/twelve miles) with no problem. I drove with the a/c off and the radio also off.
Like I said I was into heavy traffic for a while with outside temperature in low 90's.
When I got home I noticed the radio didnot work as it needed the code (as when you disconnect the battery) and since it was the first thing to die leads me to believe I had an electical failure that lead to the engine stall. Am I right?
Where should I look into? Battery condition, alternator output? Any other ?
Your comments /advice greatly appreciated. Tks
