cooked turbo? 700 1989

i checked oil and coolant 2 days ago and both were fine. today i was under the hood and saw oil coming out of the turbo air intake hose. i checked coolant, level ok but there is oil in coolant. transmission fluid is red and at proper level. oil level ok and oil seems clean (about 1200 miles after change).
i did see a small puddle of coolant on the garage floor as well. it was close to the middle of where the car was parked but a little closer to the drivers side. i replaced the original grey cap on the expansion tank with a green one (i could hear air leaking out of the grey) and now coolant will seep out (as if it's under too much pressure) when i open the cap, even when the engine is cool.

the turbo "whirs" during boost at a noticeable volume if you're listening for it. i've never owned a turbo so i don't know how much noise it should make or how much boost it should have but boost is definitely there.

when the turbo was out the fins spun freely and i made sure it was lubed before i ran the engine. in my rookie engine swap haste i overlooked checking the turbo oil return pipe to the engine to see if it had any buildup.

when the old engine went bad there was oil in more places. i am wondering if this turbo is bad and needs a rebuild/replacement or if i should try replacing just the pipe first. i also wonder if leaking oil seals at the turbo could cause oil to push into the expansion tank. i am going to let the car warm up and check both oil and transmission dipsticks (i haven't turned the car on since i noticed these problems on monday-today's wednesday) again to see if i can see any antifreeze on either.

hope for some help here!
