Service Engine light is on, then off 900 1994

Not that this should matter, but I just had my oil changed, new rotors and front brakes installed.

Also note, weather has been hotter than normal lately. Don't know if this matters.

My "service engine" light comes on when I start the car. Thinking that this might be tied to the oil service interval, I did remove the rubber plug in the dash and push in on the reset button, but this appeared to have no effect.

After driving for 3-4 minutes the light goes out. Car runs fine. Mileage has been crummy (17-18mpg) but I've been attributing this to lots of short (less than 10 mile one way) trips.

Thoughts? Solutions? Recommendations?
