240 won't run fails to keep firing

Hi All, the 240 was running, I did a compression test on the cylinders and then it would not restart. I thought the wires were damaged in the process so I replaced them, but to no avail. After sitting for a while, the engine initially fires but does not start. After the initial firing in the first couple of seconds it stops. After that, it will not fire. The fuel relay clicks. The fuel pumps are running. The fuses are all okay. Putting a timing light on when cranking indicates power is going through the wire. What am I missing here?

Thanks, David
