wINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT

Anyone done their own front windshield replacement?

I just had the windshield replaced in a car, I've decided is too much work to rehab and I'd like to switch it over to a 940 wagon, I just purchased. I use to think window installation was a big deal, but once the trim is removed, it looks like its just a matter of removing the old Butyl rubber seal, placing a new bead of Butyl and pressing the windshield into place. Then replacing the trim.

Of course, from experience, I know the devil is in the details.

For example. How do you remove the good windshield without smashing it up. Maybe there is no way this can be done because of the tenacious nature of the Butyl seal.

And, how do you clean up the Butyl from the car into which the good windshield is being placed.

Etc. Etc.

My windshield was replaced for $230. That's not a lot of money in the scheme of Auto repair. So, I know it must be fairly easy if you understand the technique.
