oil leak 200

I did an oil change Monday on my 92 240 and now have a problem I have never had with any vehicle, oil leak at the oil filter. I used a Mann filter, do these need to be beyond hand tight? Hand tight has always worked for me with other filters, I have never needed an oil filter wrench before. I did notice that while removing the old filter I needed to use a 14" pipe wrench. To I just put it on tighter and replace lost oil or is there possibly some defect?
