ABS vs non-ABS pads 700 1992

Last year I bought front and rear brake pads for my 1992 non-ABS wagon, but only replaced the rears. Today I went to replace the front pads and found that the old pads were a bit different from the new ones. See below:

At first it looked like the new pads would fit, but there is no clearance in the caliper for the tab where that spring is. Checking the FAQ I see that I did order non-ABS pads, but it seems that my existing pads and calipers are for ABS. Is this common, or is it possible that someone replaced the calipers in the past? I know that when I bought the car 3 years ago, the shop that did the safety check on it replaced the front pads and rotors and had to send the pads back because the "wrong" ones had been supplied.
