Ignition Timing 120-130

Am in the same boat as you. Have to replace the cam because one of the exhaust lobes is going flat. Have had the parts for a while already but have not yet scraped together the courage to start.

How about running a “novice’s guide to replacing cam” as you go along, maybe in a new thread?

Some time ago I managed on my own to replace the fibre timing gear, without too much difficulty. But I have never before replaced the cam (or taken the head off, for that matter).
