Volvo doesn't screw up often but 240 owners know all about the blower motor replacement debacles. Here's another: Went to replace front rotors, bearings & pads on my '85 today. Even with a flare nut wrench the lower brake line nut rounded on the caliper. Went to the strut joint mounted line nut and it rounded too. Why didn't they make a flex line to the calipers like most other manufacturers? You can't even change struts without breaking the brake lines 'cause the line mount is welded to the strut. Now what do I do? Vice grips? Judicious application of Blaster didn't help. Then I'll have to find the right length steel brake line with metric fittings and THEN manage to bend in the corkscrew pattern to match. Gaaaaaa! BTW a few years ago when I did the bearings, had no trouble with the line nuts. It was still a pain to have to bleed everything.
Afterthought, how about replacing the caliper steel lines with flex hoses? There will then be 4 flex hoses each side, 2 between the body and the strut and 2 between the strut and the calipers. It's still drivable as I put everything back together to figure out my next move.
