Two Questions: 142 Fuel sender and air conditioning 140-160

I have a 71 142 that runs great. I just had a leaky gas tank repaired with the Gas Tank Renu process, and although pricey, I can't complain about the work done. However, the gas gauge has always read full at 8 gallons. After the repair and fixing a loose baffle, now it reads 1/2 at 8 gallons, but I can't physically get more than 8 gal into the tank! Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone have an opinion on air conditioning? Anyone know where to source an original air conditioner? Are aftermarket units a bad, bad idea?
