Aux cooling fan question 900 1994

The wife's '94 940 auxiliary fan seized on her, actually burned up ...smoking. I found a replacement on a '98 S90 ...fits fine (after extending the wires).

It does run ..but differently than the original. When the air is turned on the fan will cycle on and off. Temp is fine. When you turn the motor off ...the fan does not run.

The original fan would run 100% of the time when the air was on, and on engine shutdown ..it would continue to run for a varying period of time, seemingly dependent on heat.

So which is it supposed to do? I would think fan motors themselves would only respond to the relays, as described in the FAQ's.

Thanks for your help.
