Resistor failure section ? 200 1985

Dave ..
I need to fix the fan on my '92 245. I dread it.

I followed the link to cleanflametrap.com ...looking for the section covering 'resistor failure' ..could not find it - just the picture and comment about mid-way down.

Correct me if I am wrong. From the pix it looks as if there is about half dash dis-assembly before the resistor could even be checked ..am I right? I guess I am hoping for shortcuts.

Before I dive in ..is there any hints to MAKE SURE it is a bad fan. I have done extra work (not needed) a couple of times due to the fact I missed something stupid..like a simple fuse. I really don't want to make a mistake like that with a job like this.

Thanks
