water pump installation 444-544

Just to expand on Eric's comments--the pump on the slant OHC pumps can be levered up by the use of the lowest mounting bolt hole with a tapered drift or pin punch--but the B18/20 pump needs to be levered by the two lowest bolt holes--same deal. I smear a little grease on the paper gasket to hold it in place on the pump and to aid the sliding process and some grease on the two top "O" rings. Start the top bolts and run them in just enough so the pump is nearly flat against the block. Now lever the pump upward to squish the "O" rings -- snug the top bolts and start the remaining bolts and run those in--then do a final even tightening. Place the sealing ring on the lower hose pipe with a little grease and use a wiggling/swiveling motion to run it into the pump till the bolt tube is aligned with hole in the block. -- Dave
