P1800 No Electrical all of teh sudden 1800 1967

I've just had a battery failure on my "modern". The nice man from the AA tested it and found 12.6 volts. Fine but instead of holding about 400amps it measured 8, yes 8. Started fine on a booster pack and he retested it after 5 minutes running. No change. New battery fitted, maoney paid and off I go. So, it might register 12.6 volts or so but could be completely *****d. Try a jump start from a known good battery in a car with the engine running.
