rattling on acceleration 200 1988

1988 245 w/298K miles

a couple months ago upon acceleration from a stop (only in 1st gear) a faint "tink" could be heard intermittently. then it became more regular, then did it as i shifted into 2nd as well. and now, when i'm 200mi from home, its rattling in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. but seems to go away at higher speeds. the rattle is "tin-like" sounding, not necessarily dull but not super ringing either, somewhere in between (if that makes sense). rattle goes away when clutch goes in, when releasing the accelerator.

no loss of power or any other out of the ordinary occurrences, that i can tell.

sorry its kind of vague... any ideas or similar experience our there???

id like to drive home soon...
thanks
