Ignition/Starter Question 200

I'm still working out bugs in an 1984 240 Wagon which can be traced here (http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1485175/220/240/260/280/modified_cars_sold_unsuspecting.html).

Now I'm fighting a glitching in the ignition. When the car turns over and engine fires up, the key springs back in the II running position. Yet as the engine idles in ignition (key) in II position, the started continues turning over as though the key is position III.

I recently pulled a working computer and the fuel and system relays from my other 84 and installed them in this car. I also tried another working ignition switch, which made no difference.

Has anyone any idea if it's the starter going, or something other?

Thanks!
