Bright light kills engine 700

1988-740 sedan...Coming home last night, flicked lights to bright and engine shut off. Haven't had time to check yet. Anyone have any idea as where to start checking? Oh, one more thing, the light out indicator on dash was previously coming on when the right turn signal was used even thought both front and rear turn signals were working. Connected?
