Hi,
After finishing an engine swap on my 84' 240 wagon I now have a no fuel situation. I first tried the method suggested by the article "In the Tank", where they describe jumping pins 5 & 7 in the fuse panel. This confirmed that at least my main fuel pump is operational, however I am unsure if the intank pump is running. Next I followed the procedure in the Bentley manual for testing the fuel pump relay as follows:
1. With the engine cranking check for battery voltage at terminal 87....
I found there was no voltage at 87 during cranking(87 connects strait to the pump, so we can assume no power to pump)
2. Check for power at terminal 30 & 86...
I found that there is power in both, meaning that there is power at the relay, however due to step 1 we know that the power isn't getting past the relay.
3. While cranking the engine check for continuity between 85 & ground.
This one is confusing me, because when I hook 85 & ground up it shows that I not only have continuity but I have 12 volts in the wire??
Am I testing something wrong that I am getting a voltage on this test?? any ideas??
