Dead Wagon 200 1988

Before we rope tow this car to a mechanic (which I hate doing because I always get stuff fixed myself) I wonder if anybody has any thoughts.

It's an 88 240 wagon. For the last couple of months it's been not starting intermittently (but never stalling or dying). Last week he turned his car off and it won't start. This one has about 270K on it and the fuel pump appeared to be original. It wasn't running anyhow so I forced it on by jumping fuses 4 and 6 - it sounded kind of bad so I changed it. Didn't help - still wont start. We definitely have plenty of spark. So at this point fuel pump will run (if I force it to) and we have spark but seemingly the injectors are not firing.

Is there a relay or something that could cause this or...?
the biodegradable wiring harness is kinda bad but I don't think that's the problem.

I just don't know these cares well enough - if it was a 122 it'd be running but I'm bewildered by the electronic fuel injection.
