I've got a 93 940 with Regina and recently it had been running fine. I had to replace the tank fuel pump (it's only pump} a couple months ago. I did buy a new Volvo pump from Tasca. Recently, I've also replaced the header pipe, plugs and wires, timing belt, H20 pump.
Yesterday, it was pouring out, I had started the car, it started easily and I was driving down the road and it just cuts out. ?? I pulled over, restarted it and thought it was o.k.. Took it down the road about another 10th of a mile. Cuts out again. I went to re-start again and listened for the fuel pump at initial start- it ran normal, just a 2-3 seconds like it should.
I jumped it fuse 1 to 11- ran continuously as it should.
Meanwhile, neighbor kid stopped, he fools aroungd with old Volvos too. He checks for spark at coil- we got that. He's got tools so he pops dist. cap and finds some corrosion in cap-cleans that up. We try to re-start. It caught and ran but only for about 10 seconds and when I'd try to increase RPMs I couldn't and it would finally stop idling and stall. He thought it could be coil.
Today, I go back and find a few vacuum lines split so I replaced them. Thought I
found the problem. Tried to start and still same condition.
In exasperation, I grab my very reluctant wife and I tow car home. Tried to re-start and it fired right up, I could accelerate without it dying and it seems to be o.k.but did'nt dare take it for a drive as I wouldn't get a 2nd tow from a certain female. What is going on with this vehicle. Bad ground somewhere? Could it be a quirky coil?
I have NO idea where to begin. Please, any suggestions would be very helpful and appreciated.
Thank you, Emaycom
