Auto Transmission Delay in Shifting 900

This must be a common problem, because I have it in 2 of my 4 940s.

The car seems to shift well between 1st and 2nd. But, it hold in second far too long and will only shift into 3rd at a speed of over 40 MPH. Even then, it won't shift up unless I back off on my rate of acceleration. At lower speeds it will shift if I noticeably back off on the accelerator and in all cases it will shift up satisfactorily, if I downshift the transmission shift lever as if I were shifting a manual transmission.

If I just the sequence from 2nd to 3rd as if it were a manual transmission car, I could get by. But if it is a simple fix, I'd like to try it.

In either case, if someone knows what is causing this problem, I ask them to share the information with me.
