Stalling when shifting into reverse (90 240 w/AW)

I have my son's 240 for a few days. Before passing it off to me he explained that the car has been stalling when shifting into reverse. I immediately was able to confirm that.

Even when warm after starting the car and shifting into reverse it will stall numerous times. I tried giving it a little more gas to increase the idle speed but it had no effect. It does not stall when shifting into drive. After five or six attempts it will finally shift into reverse without stalling and then proceed as normal

The car has about 215K and admittedly is getting a little tired. Any suggestions on what might be the cause of the stalling?

Randy
