Dead A/C compressor - remove or leave the drive belt? 700 1990

So my A/C compressor is shot and the evaporator is leaking, too -- not worth spending over a grand to repair on a $1200 car with 250K miles. The car is our all-purpose hauler (3 big dogs, canoe and kayak, etc.) and the car we take to the beach (love those rubber floor trays for beach sand - not much snow in Savannah). Windows and open sunroof works for me (and the dogs).

My question is, should I remove the A/C drive belt? It's less than 2 months old and will fit my 88 240. Do I really need to keep spinning the A/C clutch needlessly or is there a balance/tension issue with the other belts and the crankshaft pulley?

Thanks.
