New tailpipe...smoother idle? 900

Just to share with you guys. I had my 1996 940 light pressure turbo on lifts recently and noticed that the tailpipe had a 2 inch split at the seam about 2 inches from the rear muffler. I took it to the local muffler shop and had them fabricate the same 'S' shape as the original, with the same diameter pipe. After the replacement, the idle is a lot smoother, and the ever so slight drone when accelerating is gone. Feels like it runs a bit smoother too. Really? A 2 inch split can make that big of a difference? I have driven my old 144 cross country without the tailpipe and did not notice any difference, except for a 'sportier' exhaust note.
