Aftermarket temp sensor - gauge readings? 200

What are peoples experiences with aftermarket temp "senders"? (The one for the gauge only).

I installed one and it reads the normal operating temp with a new thermostat as high. The old one worked a few times when I coaxed it to work, but I don't think the engine was ever fully hot - the old thermostat had emergency-failed open.

I'll troubleshoot the possible heat issues elsewhere, I'd just like to know if anyone's was accurate. I checked the head temps with a non-contact temp sensor and they were 170-188F.

Cheers!
