Synthetic Oil? .... Why I use it. 700

When I got my 1997 965, it had synthetic in it, so I continued that. Then I considered using it in my high-mileage 1988 244GL.

The usual caveat is that this change can cause oil leaks. How? Mineral oil can leave a varnish residue in locations that - over time - could be leaks without that residue. Synthetic washes away that residue, allowing leaks to become leaky.

When I switched the 244 to Mobil-1, no leaks showed up. BENEFIT - never having to clean a flame trap. It was always clean, so after several oil changes I quit looking.

So now all my drivers are on synthetic, using Mann filters and 5000 mile interval.

Good Luck,

Bob
