Hello all.
I replaced the pads all around on my 240 with decent semi-metals (so much more bite and better function! After a proper bed-in, of course.). This is the 4-piston per side Girling setup with 3 bleeders. A couple things:
I only bled the front calipers from the top bleeder. No problems other than when I drove around with a not completely torqued bleeder on the front passenger side. Found the problem, re-bled all 4 (PR, DR, PF, DF), no more issues there.
A note to anyone else doing this, the master cylinder reservoir has two separate chambers. Watch both of them when bleeding :)
Questions:
Where can I get some of those teenie tiny spring-cotter pins (R-pins) for the front calipers? I am using some harbor freight split cotter pins, but they're not standard, and only for temporary use.
When I replace the front calipers' piston seals, do I need to disassemble anything, or can I just remove the calipers, replace the seals, and move on with my day? The seals failed when I removed them, and all 4 pistons seem to work fine. I put a good dose of grease on the back of the pads to keep dust from getting past the seals for now.
Do I need to bleed from the left and right lower bleeders if I don't split the calipers?
Also, has anyone else noticed the setup in the back to transfer a collision from the bottom of the trunk into the rear axle via the calipers? Very interesting.
