Help...CPS broke off....what's my next option 200 1991

My son-in-law has a '91 245 with about 250K on it and is in dire need of replacing the crank position sensor. We got the little 10mm bolt out without much fuss, but the real trial came to trying to remove the actual sensor out of its home sweet home. Fast forward to where we are now. We broke off the top of the sensor and it's almost flush with its housing. Someone suggested getting a long drill bit into it and making a hole in it and putting a screw in it to back it out.....tight squeeze. Is the only other option to drop the tranny, expose the 2 retaining bolts of the housing and remove it that way? Any suggestions will help. Thanks for looking.
