Carb. problem? 140-160 1972

So, in playing with my carb. to eliminate a slightly rough idle looks like I may have created a problem I can't figure out.
After setting valves, points, timing and adjusting the carb idle for highest RPM/vacuum it has a funny problem. When I start it(warm) it idles at 800 just fine but when I rev it the rpm's won't drop below 1200 no matter what I do. However, if I put the car in gear (auto trans) the rpm's drop to normal and everything is fine, put it back in park and everything is still OK. As soon as i rev it though, back to 1200 or so. Not sure what to check, not to familiar with these carbs as I just got the car. Doesn't seem like it would be a vacuum leak but something is getting stuck. If anyone has any Ideas as to what to look at I'd appreciate it.
