Hello all,
I really need to get tires, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, based on the following info.
About six years ago I bought the Toyo Z800 Ultra tires from Les Schwab (with free beef!). I have been very happy with these tires. I have put just about 100,000 miles on them (and my car is about to hit 300,000 miles itself), and I had only two flat issues, once which Les Schwab replaced with pro-rating, and once where I bought another Z800 altogether, because I was hundreds of miles from the nearest Les Schwab.
Since I bought the tires I spent a year doing a 60-mile round trip work commute five days a week in Washington state (so lots of rain), then a year doing a 200-mile round trip commute four times a week, going from the California desert to the Los Angeles area. Then I spent two years in upstate New York, which meant single-digit temperatures and over a hundred inches of snow every year. (I recently moved back since then, and the snow gave me a frozen caliper and seized cat converter bolts, but the tires are fine.) I have driven across the country, through the Arizona desert in 120 degree weather, and over the Rocky Mountains in a blizzard. Basically, I've had a really good run with these tires.
I don't want to try and find the same tires, however. In addition to the bother of trying to locate and maintain discontinued tires, I figure there are probably tires that have come out in recent years that are just as good, or better, and easier to get.
I am planning to buy at Tire Rack along with a road hazard warranty, and have them installed locally. (In the East Bay area incidentally; any recommendations for tires shops?) Alternately, there also is a Les Schwab a short distance north of where I am in Albany. My tire size is 185/70-14.
Based on all that, what would you all recommend?
Thank you for reading all this, and I welcome your comments.
