Gaah. Broken down, charging weirdness. 200

I was driving earlier tonight, and noticed the dial illumination was dim, and the temp/fuel gauges were dropping. I flicked the lights off and on, and they picked back up for a while.

I stopped at a gas station, and it wouldn't restart. A kind fellow measured the battery, it was 11.8V. We jumped the battery, and when idling, the voltage measured 12.5V or so. Revving the engine caused the voltage to drop... back down to 11.something.

So I left the car there.

The alternator light did not come on when driving. The lamp does light up withe other warning lamp when the ignition is on, engine off. The battery is new, the wiring for the alternator is new, and not perished.

Any suggestions? I'm suspecting a short when the ignition is on... that's going to be fun to find!

Thanks,
Tim
