Water Pump Bolt Stripped 200

I installed a new water pump (OEM) on my brother's '90 245, and happened to strip one of the bolts (see picture with red arrow). I guess it is probably the thread in the hole that is actually stripped.

I was going to either:

1. Search for a longer M6 bolt.
2. Put a couple of washers in so the bolt only grabs the good threads.

Also, how can I get the bolt out? I made a crude attempt at pulling and turning with needle nose pliers, but the bolt continued to just turn in the hole.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. The car slowly leaks coolant, and I need to get it back together asap.

Thanks
Mike
