cabin air poor quality 200 1988

I have had several 240's with water/carpet problems. Here's what you need to know:

The padding under the carpet is foam rubber, and has scrim piece as its top layer that is almost air and water tight. So, if water/liquid gets under the carpet and into that padding, it will not ever evaporate. Left long enough, it can actually rust a hole in the floorboard! BTDT. (Of course, then it drained out.)

It is not difficult to get under the carpet for a wetness check. The black plastic door threshold can be removed by pulling it up, working from one end to the other. Let a male friend do it unless ruining a fingernail isn't a problem for you. You can then see the edge of the carpet along the door edge. Move it out from the metal and try to get a hand under it, at least enough to reach a hand 6 to 12 inches in there. Wetness? Putting the threshold back is a matter of lining up the forward end and using light karate chops on it.

There are ways to get under other parts of the carpet - around the center console kick panels, e.g. Most thorough method is to pull the carpet out and look at everything.

I pulled out a foam pad from one 240 that dripped like a leaking bucket, so much water was held in it.

Good Luck,

Bob
