abruptly turned off/temp needle 200 1986

Other night before getting on the highway, the car just turned off. All the red lights came on..batter, hand break, oil, break failure etc...

Luckily I was at a stop light and and turned the car back on and let it warm up and got home ok. Now I may not have warmed it up long enough but it happened once before when I was in slow traffic on the highway. But I didn't hear any weird noises, no smoke or smells of any kind from the car???

Second thing is next day I got home from work and the car sat for about an hour. When I left in it again the temperature needle began to go up then went back down again. Later that day it did it again. And now today no problem. Just sits where it is supposed to. Any ideas?? Thanks!
