87-740 broken interior heat control lever. How to fix? 700

Thanks,
The cable is intact and working.

The lever in the passenger compartment is only a short one that connects, inside the dash, to the main lever that controls the cable . That connection is broken.

I think the bottom line is I need to remove the entire temp control assembly to, either replace it, or , if possible(which Im doubting) repair.
Has anyone done this?

I think the radio will have to come out. Then its probably just a matter of making sure all the cables and hoses are removed and put back in the righ places. This would be my main concern.
I really would appreciate any help offered.

Thanks

Larue
