coul the Speedo sender effect idle?????

I have a '92 740 wagon. Non turbo. The speedo is acting up and there is a leaking differential seal that I think is causing a lot of the problems. I have been adding oil to the diff until I can get under there and fix it.
I understand that the sender and wire problems will cause the speedo to act up but when it does act up, usually on the freeway, the car will idle high when stopped. Next time I drive the car there are no symtoms until the speedo acts up again.

Are these items related and how.
