J type Over drive(M46)not working 200 1986

Code Blue my faithful 240Dl gave her life for me last Tuesday, when a driver made an unscheduled and unsafe lane change from a left hand turn pocket. I hit her doing about forty and that was pretty much that for her. I won't go into any great detail but that I had to have her towed home as she is no longer drivable.
I acquired an 86 240DL manual with OD. The O.D. does not engage, and there is no light on the dash fourth gear or any other. I replaced the relay with one from my 240DL M70. The schematics on the relays look pretty much alike to me. But no joy.
It appears I have the J type solenoid, on the l/h side of the trans. Conventional wisdom is telling me the power for this is from fuse #11, for that matter, all of the fuses appear in good shape.
So I'll check for voltage, and see what happens. The cars was looked after for the most part, and only has 225K on it.
How much of a bear is the rebuild of the O.d solenoid? Should I pull another trans from a pic-a-wreck to have one to run and one to fix?
Any and all advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
As an aside, the help I have gotten here over the years has been a life saver, more than once. I really can't thank -you all enough.

Thanks paul
