J type Over drive(M46)not working 200 1986

The M46 Gearshift knob is known to crack and pull off the shifter. People just stick it back on without hooking up the switch. Pull the shift pattern disc off and pry up the switch slightly and see if the wires are connected. If you try to use the relay from an AW70 car it works backwards,, light on, OD off. You need a relay for an M46. The solenoid should only have power when the trans is in 4th gear, key on or engine running, and button pushed to energize the relay
