1987 Volvo 245 GL: Will not start

I have a Volvo 245 GL that has been running perfectly... This afternoon I tried to start it and it would not start. The battery is very strong, there is plenty of fuel, the starter motor and solenoid are fine and the engine cranks without a problem but it will not fire. I checked the fuel pump relay and all of the fuses and they are fine. Could it be the fuel pump? If so, what would be the best way to confirm same? If not what else could it be? Could it be the Engine Control Unit (ECU)? If it is, how could I confirm it? Can it be reset? Could the ignition switch have anything to do with it? I would think that since the engine cranks, the ignition switch should be o.k.... is that true?

Many thanks to anyone who is willing to share some needed advise.
