How do I go about putting my new rubber flooring over my clutch & brake pedals? 444-544

An obvious question, I suppose.
I took the rubber off the pedals, but, of course, I will still have to make holes in my rubber flooring to accommodate the pedals. There are small hole patterns for the hi/low beam, clutch & brake pedal in the rubber flooring but, of course, the rectangular metal clutch & brake pedals are much larger than the small round holes.
My rubber flooring is new so I want to do this right.
I suspect I make some kind of slits from the clutch & brake pedal holes on down just enough to slip the rubber flooring over the pedals, right? I just don't want to create a situation where the slits I make run or get bigger in the future.
Thanks in advance for any/all help.
Photo/photos a plus. :)
Regards,
Jim
