If you have $5.99 (plus tax) you may want to consider purchasing the December 2011 issue of Hemmings Motor News.
While this may seem to be a steep price to pay for one (1) page devoted to “Volvo’s durable ‘family sports car’”, it is recognition none the same.
Mark J. McCourt, Associate Editor, has seen fit to feature our beloved Sport Sedan in a article that profiles the ancestry and the accolades of the object of our desires and he heaps on such praise as, “...never became a desired collectable.” “…unlikely sales success”, “…quaintly vintage appearance”, “…never pandered to popular taste” and “…relatively inexpensive for the discerning few who seek its uniquely sporty flavor.”
The icing on the cake is the inclusion of a “Value Trend” graph which traces the progression of the current value from 1964 when it could be purchased new from the dealer for $2,330.00 to today’s average of $10,000.00 – a sum that approximates the cost of new rubber seals and chrome trim for the casual restorer.
But, never you mind. If you want to see your favorite Volvo in print, dash down to your nearest news stand and fork over the price for the chance to add another bit of printed matter to your basement stash. I read it for the “Personals”.
