240 Serious Rear Suspension Knocks 200 1989

Some banging that occurs in the rear are the Torque Rod bushings. The banging can occur on small bumps and usually on acceleration. The P.O. may have changed the entire shock and springs thinking he was going to solve a Bad torque rod Bushing issue. MAybe he failed and then put teh car up for sale
OR
I suspect the New components my be your issue.

Check the Upper shock mount hardware. The entire mount, through the frame, might be loose.
Other then that. Grab and push /pull and yank to see what moves.
