The size of the individual teeth of all three sprockets are the same size, because they all have to mesh with the belt.

Given that, the number of teeth on a sprocket is going to be determined by the circumference of the sprocket, which equals pi * r^2.

Ignoring pi because it's a constant, then if the diameter of the crank sprocket is twice the diameter (radius or diameter, the relationship is the same) of the other two sprockets, then the crank sprocket will have the square of the difference in size, or the square of 2, which is 4, times the number of teeth.

So, you didn't have to ask.

And you thought that you'd never have a use for algebra when you were sitting in math class?
