I intalled plugs in both outlets of the master cylinder and found the pedal to be rock solid. I rebled the system in sequence using the bicycle pump. There is no change in pedal behavior- it continues to head for the floor given the opportunity.
I have been working alone and decided to enlist a helper. While she worked the pedal I found that the pistons in the new calipers have not moved from their original position. I can slip a feeler gauge between all eight pistons and the backs of the pads and the rotors turn freely.
The calipers are on the correct side, the third bleeder valve is at the top of each caliper. The dimples match up on each caliper and are on the bottom of the calipers. Fluid flows freely through the calipers with a bleeder valve open but apparently the pistons will not move... at all. A tag on the calipers indicated they were rebuilt last month.
It sure acts like air is trapped in the system somewhere, but I can not locate it. Who has an idea?
EDIT: I went back and had my helper apply as much brake as possible by pumping the pedal and holding it for as long as she could without the pedal moving more than half way to the floor and I found that I have no braking action on the rear axle either. Makes me look towards the MC again but the plugs made a rock solid pedal that would not move at all. Totally out of ideas.
